Steampunk Tele Headstock

Description

This took a fair bit of work. The leather scrap was soaked in water and glued to the headstock. Each of the nails was cut short at an angle and tapped in carefully so as not to split the wood. The little copper plate over the truss rod cavity was cut with scissors, formed along the edges with the shaft of a screwdriver, and fastened down with the tiny screws used to keep tuning machines in place. The wing accessory had to have two holes drilled into it, and was attached with machine head screws. The little string retainers were tricky to mount - the screws had to penetrate the leather before they could sink into the wood, and then there wasn't much room between the bottom of the retainer and the surface of the leather. The screws are on a funny angle on those. The nut is also custom-made. The original nut that came with the kit is cheap plastic, so I popped it out and made one out of bone. It's a little tall at the moment, but it should be easy enough to file down to size.
